The Architecture of Omission is a multi-disciplinary narrative project that explores the "un-erasing" of a brother within the rigid framework of a traditional middle-class South Asian family. Rooted in the deep-seated patriarchal pressure for a male heir to carry the family legacy, the project examines the psychological displacement of the artist following the birth of a brother.
Caught between a mother’s consumed devotion to the "apple of her eye" and a father’s eventual detached silence, the artist at age seven began a two-decade-long process of narrative erasure. By fabricating "utopic" memories of a family of four, the artist effectively edited out a brother whose behavioral disorder was too disruptive for the family’s aspirational narrative. Following a return to the family home in 2020, this project seeks to dismantle those fictions, documenting the harrowing transition from denial to the reality of caregiving for a sibling whose condition was long demonised rather than diagnosed.
